A) I think about why we name certain things the way we do quite often. For someone or everyone to not have a name for something that we now see everyday is astonishing. It makes you question if possibly the color blue was not seen at all and that is adapted. The Himba tribe had no distinction between blue or green but were able to distinguish shades of green from each other. However when I looked at the green blocks it was difficult for me to decipher which was the odd one out. In fact I didn’t get it at all. People have ultimately different perceptions about what is reality. It would be hard to imagine that people did come across the color blue and hadn’t named it. Maybe the color was just unnoticed. Its hard for us to say considering we see it all the time.
B) I personally am not a journalist. Yeah sometimes I write in my “calming Book” but its more or less just prompts which make you think. I do enjoy reading some journalism entries. The effort being made in the article about the new model journalism is good to see. I liked where they mentioned covering “neglected areas”. Also the reporters seem to write on appropriate and interesting topics in which help communities.
C) According to Erik Borg in this piece, discourse communities is a group that is widely used to analyze written communication. For me, I see it academically where we as students communicate and often have goals. Also I see it as both written and spoken communication. The concept of discourse communities is important and I think many of us can relate. Here at UCBA discourse community applies for every one of us and it makes us a community as a whole. I say this because we as students are all here to learn and achieve goals. Whether it’s short term like passing an exam or long term such as graduating. Also professors and administrators are using communication and have goals right with us.
